Ostrich Hip Bone (12" x 5"x 3”): The Durable, Flavor-Packed Chew for Medium & Large Dogs
For one dog this is probably a fine bone, but I cut off one end so the little pups could share it without being intimidated by each other. When I cut off the end I found the inside of the bone was filled with very hard and very sharp needle like filaments. Had a bigger dog broken this open on his own I hate to think of the damage he would have gotten in his mouth. To make it safe again I chiseled out all the filaments, filed it all smooth inside and filed the cut edges of the bone round. For 2 little chihuahuas this will be very safe and last them a long time, but I would be leery about giving this to a more powerful chewer. I also had the smaller knuckle bone and that was much thicker bone and much heavier so next time I will just order that one again instead of cutting this longer one.

It was worth the wait! My girl Rosie is a power chewer and this bone lasts a few rounds of 40 to 50 minutes. This keeps her entertained when it's to hot outside and gives me a break. She's also allergic to beef, so this is perfect. I like that it definitely does not splinter, but leaves a little bit of a mess which I'm happy to vacuum up after her round. These are definitely going on our monthly list!

Here is our standard poodle loving her first ostrich hip bone. She loves it for 3-4 days then hardly touches it. She gets awesome chew time with this bone. My negatives are that it leaves a mess of crumbs due to the honeycomb nature of the inside of the bone. My dog’s stool was not affected at all with these bones. The other negative for the longer and thinner bone was it was pretty splintery when pieces popped off after a hard chew. She knew better to eat those. All in all, this hipbone is our choice compared to the longer bones. I will continue to purchase. I already have. I also bought snacks for my dog here and OMGOSH…she loves the variety she has with these added treats to her repertoire! The chips are fantastic and the small “sausages are delicious for her too. No balking at any of Savannahs items per Piper 🐩

My pup was instantly interested in the bone. He’s a powerful chewer so we try a lot of products. This bone is more porous than the beef bones he usually chews which means the pieces crumble off onto the floor more, but there are no big sharp pieces broken off that can cause intestinal upset. He loves it. We have a shaft bone too but haven’t tried that one yet!

Lorelai loves her hip bones more than any other of her chews. It will easily keep her busy for an hour at the time. They also last us about a week or longer. Its very crumbly in texture, a bit more messy, but great so she cant chew off large pieces. We will purchase regulary to keep our princess happy!

I must say, I was surprised at just how big these are. I debated whether or Not to even give them to my guys but both Chanel and Owen love the large Ostrich shanks. They are still chewing them after 3 days. The typically lose interest after the first day. I will be ordering more.
