When I opened the treat, my dog came running to me sniffing the air like, what is that. Gave it to him and noticed his eyes went wide. He barked ran around the room, jumped and barked again. I finally realized he didn’t know what to do with this LARGE treat. He’s only 10 pounds. Broke a small section off, he went to chewing on that delicious ostrich gizzard. Another positive note, no offensive order.

I got the gizzard for my 6 year old schnauzer mix, but it was my 16 year old poodle that claimed it! I was able to break it easily enough so they each have a piece to work on. It has a strong odour, but that is to be expected. As a vet tech, I am cautious about chews that are too hard and can break teeth, or chews that don’t digest well and can cause blockages. Definitely not too hard and the pieces they are chewing off are an okay size. No GI upset after two chewing sessions of 1 hr each. A large dog would demolish the gizzard quickly, but it seems to be a great thickness for my small guys.

The Whole Gizzards you ordered are one of the softest items we make. They are a high-value soft chew, closer to a training reward than a bully stick, so a few minutes per piece is normal for them. Comparing them to a bully stick was never going to be a fair fight, and that's a labeling problem on our side rather than anything you got wrong. Our actual long-lasting chews are the dense bones: Ostrich Shaft Bones (11" x 2") at $13.99 - same price as the Gizzards, in a completely different category for durability Large Ostrich Cane (11.5" x 5") at $19.99 - our workhorse for medium, large, and XL dogs Ostrich Long Bone (19" x 3.5") at $29.99 - the biggest challenge we offer Ostrich bone has a dense honeycomb interior, so it crumbles into blunt, digestible pieces rather than splintering the way cooked bones do. It's a different structure from what you get with hollow poultry bones or solid mammal bones. If you reply with the breeds and rough sizes of your three dogs, I'll tell you exactly which bone suits each one, and which to skip. Everything ships from our South Dakota warehouse, usually out the same or next day.
Both of my dogs loved these. I find them quite stinky, but they enjoyed them out in the yard. They lasted a good amount of time (which is rare for treats in this house!) Definitely will be purchasing again!
